“Non-Eu immigrant”,”clandestine”,”refugee”: impersonal epithets to describe the personal devastating drama of illegal mass immigration waves in Italy. Forced from poverty, civil wars, dictatorial regimes to ship on overcrowed and decaying crafts, hundreds and hundreds of Eritreans, Syrians, Moroccans, Algerians, Egyptians and Tunisians daily face danger to build a future, risking death at Italian sea each years. On 3 October 2013 366 immigrants shipwrecked about 1 km offshore the Sicilian island of Lampedusa: the umpteenth tragedy was described by the President of Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, as a “massacre of the innocents”, one of the worst disasters of Europe’s immigration crisis. It was an avoidable sea tragedy, because the phenomenon has lapsed into absolute European Union countries indifference and into its immigration politics paralysis, despite continued wave of shipwrecks.
Saved from machiavellians fellow countrymen who hurl them into high sea and monitored by Red Cross through medical attention, the surviving immigrants have been transported to Centers of Gathering. This reportage reports the immigrants routine in Cesine agritourism, about 90 km far away from Napoli, adapted to Center of acceptance because of the Italian overcrowding Center of Gathering emergency. The Center of Cesine can accommodate about thirty immigrants who work in the morning at the agritourism, helping to clean, to cook, to keep in order all the structure and amenities; in the afternoon they have free time to spend in or out the Center. The immigrants conditions in Cesine Center represent the exception that proves the rules; the renown inability of the Italian Government to manage and organise the waves of immigrants and to accept them in adequate buildings obligates the immigrants to live daily in decrepit and dirty structures, sometimes in tents, in precarious hygienic conditions, clumped each other, without any respect of human rights.
The last umpteenth denunciation about this violation concerns a shameful event, occurred at the Lampedusa Center, the biggest and the most famous Italian Center of Gathering for immigrants: on December 2013 a Syrian boy denounced by a mobile video that the immigrants was forced in winter to receive anti-scabies treatments nude and out the center, through methods as Nazi concentration camps. The shock caused by those images had requested the intervention of Cecilia Malmstroem, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, who had intimidated infraction procedures against Italy and the ban of European immigration funds admission, according to the EU legislation which garantees dignified and adequate conditions to immigrants.
